The USA men’s national team has already qualified to play in next year’s Rugby League World Cup 2017 in Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.
“USARL supports the USA bid to host the men’s and women’s 2021 Rugby League World Cup and looks forward to the challenge of preparing our USA Hawks to take the pitch as the host nation if called upon,” said USA Rugby League Chairman, Peter Illfield. “We thank RLIF and its representative members for recognizing America as a land of opportunity, and the community of Rugby League clubs and supporters across the United States welcome Moore Sports International in its bid to grow and celebrate our great game in this country.”
The USA men’s national team qualified last December to play in next year’s Rugby League World Cup 2017 in Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. The USA Hawks, currently ranked 10th in the world, will play Fiji, Papua New Guinea and a yet-to-be-determined 3rd European Qualifier for a chance to advance out of pool play and in to the Quarterfinals. The Hawks will next be contesting the 2016 Colonial Cup, an annual challenge match between the USA Hawks and the Canada Wolverines, in a two-match series to be staged in Toronto on September 24 and in Wilmington, Delaware on October 1.
